There was a time when we’d take pictures on a trip, have no idea what they looked like, get them developed at our local camera store and paste them all together in the pages of a book. Then we’d have a friend over and show them the journey we went on…
Grab a cup of tea and enjoy!
Select photos are available in our shop as art prints on Hahnemühle German etching paper.
If you deeply connect with an image and would like a print that is not listed, please let us know.
Lake Nemi, Italy
Finding eachother outside the Rome Metro! (left- Larkin, right- Juliette)
Before the train to Nemi, we stopped by the Palazzo Massimo museum
This fresco and mosaic floor from an ancient Roman home made me think about what Gabriela had said about going to a new place and standing on the doorstep of who lives there
These bronze figureheads are some of the few remaining artifacts from Caligula's ships
We were struck by them at the museum, and then found out their history later. Pictured here - Medusa
And we had time for a meal!
The waiter complemented us for soaking up all the sauce :D
Genzano!
Romeo showed us the way to the viewpoint
Our first introduction to Lake Nemi
And the view to the west, of the sea
In the morning, we got a clearer view of the lake
The view of the temple from the opposite point, where Caligula's third ship is likely still buried under the water
The museum where the ships were is close to the buildings visible here, close to the shore
Nemi is famous for their strawberries :) which pair gorgeously with arugula and prosciutto
Looking back up at Genzano from the lake shore
This is the entrance to the emissario - the tunnel carved through the mountain when the temple was built so that if the lake water rises it will flood all the way out at the sea, rather than flooding the temple
We're on the trail! :D
We went by the farm of some friends of Romeo and Matteo's, who host forest bathing experiences in their voluptuous garden
She gave us some AMAZING fresh strawberry juice with a leaf of chocolate bergamont
The ancient spring near the temple, with a hand written sign saying "L' acqua e' vita... rispettiamola :) :) N'ON ROMPE"
Walking through the farmland bordering the temple
To make space for the temple, Romans carved back the crater wall and supported it with this beautiful archetecture... that has lasted thousands of years
Much of the temple is covered by soil for protection, but this corner is exposed
It has limited protection from this simple roof
And an alter in the corner where locals still come to leave offerings and prayers
These walls would have formed rooms where people lived or studied
Much of this stonework would have been brightly painted
We thought it was a good place to ask Matteo to read a little bit about his play honoring the place! (click to hear audio)
These rattles I brought with me are from Native Sounds in Santa Fe NM (an indiginous-owned shop who will ship if you call). The rattles have corn kernels in them, and sound to me like a rainstorm in the southwestern tundra. -Larkin Click to visit their website.

Banksy in Genova, Italy
We stumbled upon a pop up Banksy exhibit in the Genova train station, "The World of Banksy - The Immersive Experience"
This was the first piece, right as we stepped in
Each piece carried a full body emotional download.
The way the art worked with the space created a true journey, with twists...
It was full on a transformational experience. Equally heart-opening and deeply motivating. Truth, in essence.
Aix En Provence, France
Farmers market in the square around Fontaine de l'eau bénite
I took a minute to lay out all the resourcing things of the moment - J teaching me french, an unopened letter from home, a bag of herbs for offerings...
The stairway up to our rental apartment
Rue Jeanne D'Arc in Marignane, near the brackish water
Visiting the water - Étang de Berre
This is the wall of Basilique Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, which houses a skull said to be Mary Magdalene's
Surprisingly... neither of us got any readings from visiting there. Like - not the absence of something, just... nothing
There was a cute cafe though!
We carried our snail friend on a leaf into the forest where they could thrive :)
Saint Baume
The Hostellrie de la Saint Baume, where Dominican Friars have been living and hosting pilgrims since 1835
The Dominican presence dates back to the 13th century, and there are stories of an original hermitage there in the 400s
We spent one night in a Hostellerie room. Juliette had stayed in the same room when she was there before, and was woken up by a very disapproving ghost after falling asleep with a candle still lit
In the right side of this photo, where the green of the forest meets the grey of the cliff, you can see the church built around the cave where Mary Magdalene is said to have lived
Juliette's triptych painting in process
Starting the walk up to the cave
Finding the trail marker
The entrance to the church cave
A version of the classic pieta right outside the cave entrance, with Mary Magdalene kneeling at Jesus' feet
A spiderweb on our path as we vented and recovered after the church cave...
And a tree perfectly camouflaged with the stone behind it
Holly berries on the forehead...

An illustration of the painter walking through the caves, above a recreation of the footprint found inside
Tools from the era the paintings were made, including a tallow lamp like the painter(s) would have used
A cut out of a handprint found in a painting
And an animal skull from that era
It's the trail again!
This is the tree with the root that goes all the way down through the first cave

Le Moulin de Chaos in the town of Huelgoat

Sunset that evening, at a mountain top church nearby also called Mont Saint Michel
We camped right near Mont Saint Michel under this rugged peak that held a lot of wild magic energy, reminding us of yet another feminine/masculine balance landscape
Sunrise the next morning <3
I bought this drum at an artist collective store in Huelgoat :) felt like finding a friend! - Larkin
Carnac
On the way to Carnac, we stopped by an enormous Dolman called La Roche aux Fées in Essé.
if we'd had time to spend the night, there likely would have been some lively faeries!
We arrived at Carnac just as the sun was setting
